🛡️ What About Travel Safety in Egypt?

We understand that some travelers may have questions about visiting Egypt. As of September 14, 2026, the U.S. Department of State rates Egypt Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution. That is the same overall advisory level currently assigned to popular destinations including the Philippines, Costa Rica and Belize.

Egypt’s advisory identifies particular areas that travelers should avoid, including Northern and Middle Sinai, Egyptian border areas and portions of the Western Desert. Our itinerary embarks from Hurghada and travels by liveaboard to established northern Red Sea dive sites. Our transfers and travel arrangements will be organized through established professional tourism and dive operators, and we will continue monitoring official guidance as the trip approaches.

A Level 2 advisory does not mean “Do Not Travel.” It means travelers should remain informed, exercise increased caution and follow destination-specific guidance—just as they should in many other popular international destinations.

🧭 Northern Red Sea Wrecks & Reefs

This classic itinerary combines some of the Red Sea’s most celebrated wrecks with outstanding reef diving. After a check dive, the boat travels north for four days among historic wrecks and signature reefs before finishing with two morning dives near Hurghada.

• SS Thistlegorm—one of the world’s most famous wreck dives, with wartime cargo that includes motorcycles, trucks and railway equipment
• Abu Nuhas wrecks—potentially including Giannis D and Carnatic
• Dunraven—a historic steamship wreck now covered with marine life
• Ras Mohamed Marine Park—walls, drop-offs, rich marine life and beautiful coral
• Sha’ab El Erg—especially well known for possible dolphin encounters
• Shag Rock and the Gubal Islands—excellent reef and wreck-diving opportunities

Specific dive sites are not guaranteed. The captain and cruise director determine the final route based on local regulations, diver experience, weather, sea conditions and logistics.

ℹ️ Dive Style & Expectations

Red Sea diving can include reefs, walls, drift dives and wrecks, with conditions varying by site. Divers should be comfortable with buoyancy, entries and exits, following dive briefings and making repetitive dives from a liveaboard.

• Minimum certification: Open Water Diver or equivalent
• Minimum experience: 10 logged dives
• To dive the SS Thistlegorm: at least 20 logged dives are required
• Dive computer: required for every diver
• Dive insurance: all divers must carry insurance covering scuba diving, emergency evacuation and recompression-chamber treatment
• Flying after diving: allow at least 18 hours—and ideally 24 hours—between the final dive and the departing flight
