Becoming an SSI-certified Ice Diver allows you to continue diving even when your favorite dives sites freeze in the winter. SSI's Ice Diving Course will teach you how to safely dive underneath surface ice. To enroll in SSI's Ice Diving Course, you must be at least 18 years old and Open Water Certified. Dry Suit Diver Certification or prior experience with dry suit diving is helpful but not required. In SSI's Ice Diving Course, you will learn about the specialized equipment used for ice diving, the special requirements for diving in an overhead environment, and necessary techniques and communication methods used with diving under ice. You can complete the academic portion of the Ice Diving Course online either on SSI's website or on your phone with the MySSI app. Unfortunately, we are in Texas, where the climate is not condusive to ice diving. Therefore, we will refer you to an SSI-certified dive center in a colder location where you can complete the open water dives required to complete this certification. If you are preparing to take a dive trip to a location that features ice diving, you can enroll with us for this course to complete the entire academic section before your trip. Then you can complete the ice dives with an SSI-certified dive center while on your trip to finalize your certification. Contact us for more information about this. You will earn the SSI Seabob Scooter/DPV Diver certification after completing this program..
